Why We Give Back: Gina and Tony Duffy

by Kelly Vance on October 17, 2016

SheShreds.co Founder Gina Duffy, and her husband and business partner Tony Duffy were recently interviewed by the Weber State University Hall Global Entrepreneurship Center, check out what they had to say!

Tony & Gina Duffy – Why We Give Back

Weber State University has always been a place of inclusion, where people from around the world are invited to share their knowledge. Tony and Gina Duffy, co-founders of Sheshreds.co, the premier action sports brand for women, accepted that invitation after relocating from windy Chicago to the snowcapped mountains of Eden, Utah.

Tony notes that WSU has been a welcoming and engaging component of the Duffy’s life in northern Utah. Since their arrival, WSU and the Goddard School of Business & Economics have asked the Duffys to share their ideas and rich knowledge of entrepreneurship with stu-
dents on campus through lectures and competitions, such as Startup Weber, to enhance their education by interacting with successful professionals.

We asked Tony why he and Gina chose to give back to Weber State and the Hall Global Entrepreneurship Center, in spite of not being alumni. “Weber has a unique role in the community and we felt that the more they invited us to be involved,” he said. Tony added that he could see the impact they were having as students applied the principles they learned from Sheshreds.co to improve startups in Ogden. The students were actually listening, and that was inspiring.

In addition, the Duffys have been instrumental in helping WSU become a destination school, assisting with a program that allowed all students living on campus to receive season passes to Powder Mountain. “At Weber, they say, ‘Come and help us.’ At other universities back home, we would have had to beg or kick and scream for the same opportunities to serve.”
