Sierra Walther, Skier (CO)
by Allie Huish on May 26, 2017
Your Age: 20
Your Location (where do you ride mostly): Breckenridge & Copper Mountain, Colorado.
Weapon(s) of choice: Freshly waxed park skis, Gorgeous top of the line all-mountain skis, Fully charged and ready to go Rebel T6i for those crazy shenanigans on the mountain with the crew, Beanie of choice, and a smile (you know what they say “Kill them with kindness”).
What’s an average day for you like?
- Wake up (early bird gets the worm in this lifestyle).
- Look Outside to see how conditions are on the mountain to choose from my weapon of choice (Living in Downtown Breckenridge is awesome because of this reason, I literally have a super pipe in my backyard).
- Wake up the crew.
- Ride the Gondola and try to get first chair to get some freshies.
- Shred the corduroy if blue bird then mob out in the park or if it’s pow day then we go straight to the hidden powder stashes on the mountain (Powder to the people!)
- Shred from opening to closing time.
- Go to Woodward Copper to dial new tricks and to progress to the next level.
- Meet up with the crew at the Crown in Breckenridge and go through the footage from the day.
- Finally ending the day with the hot tub and relaxing the night away.
What is the best and worst thing about being female in your sport? I feel like I have to work harder to get to the same level the bros are at, but that motivates me to work even harder. One thing I absolutely love about the crew that I shred with is that I am the only female but they look at me as one of the bros (they are not afraid to call me out on things that I cannot do and help me get better and complete those things). The best thing to me about being a female freeskier is that we are unicorns, a lot of people don’t think we exist. Besides your ability and style factor as an athlete, how would you describe your personal style? I used to be a breakdancer (back in theeee day), a lot of people say I got a swing in my step because of that and I strive to bring that style to whatever I am throwing in park. (It’s not about how perfect you do a trick it’s about how much steez you radiate when you throw down.) What are your favorite brands/designers for your sports apparel and for stepping out? I got some amazing friends who have the coolest company for park apparel, Imperēal, I love repping them on the mountain and just around town. I bet in your experience you have seen some crazy crashes. Describe one. Over shot a 15 foot hip and went 20ft out and more than 15ft down into flat, fracturing my right fibula. What usually gets people hooked on your activity/sport? When you have worked weeks on a trick and can’t get it but you are so determined to get it that you even dream about it. When you do stomp the trick it’s the craziest, most amazing feeling you will feel. You become completely proud of yourself. Do you own any other toys? Long Bow, Skateboard, Snowboard, Mtn. Bike, BMX
What gets you pumped up for the day? Knowing that I may change someone’s day for the better.
What is your biggest goal to accomplish this/next season? 540’s, 270 out, Lincoln Loop, Switch Rodeo 5, Cork 7, and left swap.
What’s your favorite “way” to ride? Park and all mountain, it depends on what crew I am skiing with that day. Different vibes create a different experience each day.
Favorite conditions? Blue bird or Pow days!
What song(s) do you listen to while riding that puts you in the zone? “Stairway to HipHop heaven” – Gramatik
What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever done in your sport? When I got to meet Banks Gilberti. He even took off his skis and helped me progress on some tricks while he was filming for “Adventures in Transition”. Later on he gave me a bunch of free product for getting up every time and trying the trick over and over again, even though I took some good slams.
What other extreme/action sports are you into? Skateboarding, Snowboarding, BMX, Mtn Biking.
What’s the trick to riding features and not killing yourself? Confidence is key, if you aren’t 100% about it that is when you will have your worst falls.
Favorite drink of choice to refresh yourself after a long day of riding/shooting? BAJA BLASTTTT! (Though it is only sold in the Summer, I try to stock up on multiple boxes of it.)
What do you want to be when you grow up? Happy.
