What does SheShredsCo mean to you?
SheShredsCo is so much more than just a cool clothing company. The community support it offers girls from all backgrounds to just get out there and enjoy trying new things and pushing themselves. Just knowing there are girls all over the world proving that it can be done and helping each other out is really inspiring and helps me keep pushing forward and encouraging more ladies s to get out there.
How did you get hooked on your favorite action sport(s)?
I’ve always been a bit of an adrenaline junkie so from the very first time I rode a proper mountain bike trail I was hooked. I remember getting to the bottom with the biggest grin on my face ready to push back up and do it again. I can’t explain the buzz that I get when I am out on my bike pushing my limits.
What challenges do you face being a female in the sport?
The biggest challenge is purely physiological, most women do not have the same strength and power in their bodies as the men, and so I find I have to push twice as hard just to keep up. However the whole biking community is so lovely and supportive this is never a problem. I just wish more girls would come out racing so we could open out the race categories and get more competition and noticed in the sport.
Where is the most unusual or exciting place you have done your sport?
The most exciting track to race has to be the downhill track at Glencoe in Scotland, it is rough and relentless and requires 100% concentration and dedication to complete, but the feeling when you get to the bottom is unreal. As for unusual I have done a few odd races which have included pump track challenges, riding my bike in the snow, and a half snowboarding half mountain biking mass start event. Basically, if someone has some crazy idea for a new race I just can’t say no to a challenge.
What has been your most memorable moment so far?
There have been so many incredible moments so far which I never expected. I started racing purely for fun, and every year I surprise my self with my own progress. My most memorable moment to date has to be racing the 4X world Pro Tour which was live streamed on Red Bull TV, I still have to pinch myself to remind myself that it actually happened.
Who/what are your inspirations
There are some amazing big names in the industry who are a huge inspiration, Rachel Atherton, Katy Winton, Thanée Seagrave and Manon Carpenter are some of the best riders in the world born and breed in Britain. However I am a believer in working hard until your idols become your rivals. Scotland has a lot of incredible riders who when I started were a huge aspiration to me, and I am now at a level where I am starting to match their ability and that is a huge driving force for me. Not to mention every year I get better the girls who I inspired to start racing are also getting better and keeping me on my toes. The only way is up.
Favorite thing about SheShreds products?
I love how unbelievably practical they are. They are designed by the girls who shred for the girls who shred. There are so many thoughtful little designs which makes them perfect for a day on the trails, things liked zipped pockets that are actually big enough to store things, and hoods which still cover your head even with a pony tail up. Not to mention I love the chilled out casual designs that are pretty without being overly stereotypically girly.
