Laura Corrigan - Surf/Longboard/Snowboarder - Cleethorpes, UK

 Your Age: 27

Your Location (where do you ride mostly): From Cleethorpes, But surf Mostly Scarborough!

Weapon(s) of choice: Surfboard firstly! Also long boarding and Snowboarding!
And if I'm not on a board I photograph as much as I can! Love film and Polaroids more than anything.

What’s an average day for you like? Average day is Wake up with a cuppa! No matter what I gotta have a Yorkshire Tea! Work days I normally longboard down the seafront to the skate shop I work in, then at 5 (home time) I go for a cruise down the seafront, then  the gym, followed bydinner with my boyfriend and chill. Now if there is surf, we head out early, pack the car and head to Scarborough. Have a surf, come out for a dinner break and a cuppa. Then try and squeeze another session in depending on how cold it is!

What is the most difficult part of your activity/sports for a beginner? The easiest? Most difficult part I would say is reading the waves, understanding where to put yourself and once you got that and timing you are good to go. Gotta be fit too! Takes a lot out of you with the cold and paddling constantly. The easiest is having fun! Such a fun sport! Even if I go out and got hardly any waves or bad waves I would still be having a lot of fun. Especially when you are out there with your sea sisters!

What is the best and worst thing about being female in your sport? Worst thing is just getting seen in a different light to males, but we are working on that! The best thing is being a role model to other females. And noticing and appreciating all other females in sports! Stand Together!

What would you like to see change in your sport to make it better for you and other female athletes? Just to be seen the same. We are all human at the end of the day!

Besides your ability and style factor as an athlete, how would you describe your personal style? It depends on how I feel. Normally I'm a jeans and tee kinda girl, but I love getting dressed up and wearing dresses. It just depends on my attitude at the time. I am no good in heels though!

What are your favorite brands/designers for your sports apparel and for stepping out? Mainly I like clothes that fit or look good. Love Vans, Poler, Carhartt, Roxy, Hurley, O'Neill, Glidesoul, Salt Gypsy, to name a few. Also love independent brands.

Let’s hear your thoughts on how important looking good is to feeling good. “Being” your personal best? I have in the past few years realized how much looking good and feeling good really does matter. I'm not saying to certain media standards but to yourself! If you get up and make an effort you feel better. I really look after my skin, hair and body now. It really does make a difference in your attitude towards yourself.

How dangerous do you really think it is compared to what people do in their regular activities? It can get pretty dangerous, but it's good to just take your time with everything. Start slow and work your way up!

I bet in your experience you have seen some crazy crashes. Describe one. I've seen some good ones. I have had some bad ones too as I'm pretty awkward at falling. I had a bad time in the Mentawais on a wave called Macaronis. Feeling bit cocky, I paddled for a wave a bit out my depth and panicked, kicked my board out, and it came back over with the wave only to smash the rail into my face! Came up to blood everywhere. A guy paddled across and said I was gonna lose my teeth! I was freaking out as we where living in a hut in the jungle with no hospital around at all! But I was fine. Just a fat lip and a hole in my board I didn't lose any teeth!

What usually gets people hooked on your activity/sport? The feeling of catching your first wave. If you don't get hooked from that then I don't know what will!

What is your favorite trick? Just love cruising on my surfboard. Hopefully I will get better and maybe learn more tricks. I can dance on my Longboard, though, and that's pretty fun!

Do you own any other toys? Besides a surfing, I love Longboarding. We have an amazing promenade in my town too which is perfect for it!

What gets you pumped up for the day? Music and Tea.

What are three things you could not live without? My boyfriend, tea and food. Everything else is a bonus!

Who have been your biggest supporters in getting you to where you are now? My boyfriend is my biggest supporter - he is amazing! He has gotten me through so much. And my Mum and family! Love them so much!

Who’s your favorite rider/shooter (photo/video)? Sally Fitzgibbons! What a role model she is! She puts everything she has into anything she does. I got to meet her a while ago in Bali while I was traveling and she was so humble and had so much time for me. One of my greatest days!

What do you do in your spare time when you’re not riding/shooting/competing? I love seeing my friends - I have a great bunch of friends who are all doers! So it's not just a "catch up at the pub", it's a "let's go climb a mountain" or "let's go jump off a cliff"!

How about in the off season to stay in shape? The gym! I love doing classes, legs, bums, and tums is a favorite. I also like to run & bike, and recently started rock climbing. .

What is your biggest goal to accomplish this/next season?  Surf as much as possible become more comfortable in bigger waves. And have as much fun as possible because that is the main thing!

What competitions and other awards have you won? Include your non sports accomplishments also. I recently won a competition with Up & Go where I  won a week away in their van and some money which was amazing. We went to Newquay for a much needed surf trip! I also got the most votes in the whole of Europe in a Roxy worldwide competition. Sadly, I didn't win, but it was fun and I reached out to a lot of women across the globe and helped them become happier with themselves!

What’s your favorite “way” to ride? I love beach breaks as I surf them most and sand isn't as scary as reef! Also I'm regular so like to go right but I don't mind surfing on my backhand!

Favorite conditions? Warm water. Anywhere I can wear a bikini or shorts.

Where would be your biggest dream place to ride and why? More of the Mentawais as the waves are so perfect and the place is just beautiful!

What song(s) do you listen to while riding that puts you in the zone? Sometimes I like a bit of hardcore, like Bane or The first step. But then something soft like Ben Howard gets me going too!

What turned you on to your sport? I always loved surfing but didn't realize you could do it where we are from. I went on a trip to Newquay and loved it, then started going out more with my boyfriend Harry who surfs. So I thank him for everything!

Any new tricks you’re working on? Trying to make my top turn Snappy.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever done in your sport? Traveling. Surfing makes you travel to the most amazing places in the world and I love it!

What other extreme/action sports are you into? I love watching all extreme sports.

If extreme/action sports didn’t exist, what would you be doing with all the free time you’d have? I would be making art or photographing while traveling.

What’s your favorite board/bike/sled to ride and why? My board at the minute is a 6'0 DHD Eager Beaver and I love it! Its a nice size for me easy to move around.

How would you describe your riding style? I'd like to think quite laid back, not quite ando but pretty chill - nothing too mega.

Favorite drink of choice to refresh yourself after a long day of riding/shooting? Up & Go and Yorkshire Tea!

What do you want to be when you grow up? Me!
