What does SheShredsCo mean to you?
SheShredsCo means so much more to me than a clothing brand. SheShreds provides a network of girls and women who prove that being a girl doesn't limit you when it comes to the world of sports. This brand and way of life inspires girls to always reach for the stars and never give up on their dreams no matter what those dreams are. I love that SheShreds can bring females together from all over the world and encourage them to push themselves harder in their respective sports. SheShreds shows young girls that it's okay to love action sports, not all girls have to only love "girly" things. We are redefining "girly"!
What challenges do you face being a female in the sport?
The biggest challenge being a female athlete is getting the same support as males. Prize money is always lower or non existent. Sponsors are usually harder to get as well. One of the other challenges of being a female in action sports is not having a large group of female friends around that like to take part in the same activities as you. That's why SheShreds is so great, it provides a network of females that all love to get out at participate in different sports. You often hear, "that girl is a tomboy", any time someone sees a female excelling at a sport. I want to see that change, I want to hear people saying, "that women is well rounded". Just because a girl is good at sports, it doesn't make them any less of a women that hates sports!
Where is the most unusual place you have done your sport?
I have been very fortunate to travel the world for snowboarding. I have snowboarded in Japan, Alaska, New Zealand, and Australia. One of my favorite trips was jumping out of helicopters in New Zealand for a competition. But the most unusual place would probably be on Mauna Kea. Mauna Kea is a volcano in Hawaii that gets snow in the winter!
What has been your most memorable moment so far?
My most memorable moment snowboarding would have to be the first time I went Heli boarding in Alaska. There is no better feeling than being dropped off at the top of a mountain with so much Heli noise and then the helicopter leaves and you're in complete silence on a huge mountain in the middle of nowhere. We got 8 hours of Heli boarding that trip and each run was full of powder to your waist. Heli boarding is just as invigorating every time!
Who/what are your inspirations
My inspiration in all of my sports is the youth. I want to continue to grow in my sport so I can pass down my passion to the younger generation. I want to show girls that it's okay to love sports, it's okay to be different than what the media portrays, and most importantly that you should always do what you love. I believe sports have taught me so many lessons about life and the most important is not giving up when things get tough.
Favorite thing about SheShreds products?
I love that SheShreds incorporates so many different styles in their product. They are girl products but they aren't all frilly and pink. Every product shows a different personality and every product gives us each a way to express ourselves.
