Brenna Bryant, Snowboarder (MN)

Brenna Bryant - Snowboard/Wakeboarder - Minnesota, USA

 Your Age: 31

Your Location (where do you ride mostly): Wild Mountain, Trollhaugen, Medicine Lake

Weapon(s) of choice: Roxy Ally BTX 150 with Burton Escapade bindings and 32 Timba Boots - Hyperlite Eden 135 Wakeboard - Novara Madrona 29er

What is the most difficult part of your activity/sports for a beginner? The easiest? For me, it took me my entire first season to learn how to toe-turn.  Learning edge control is KEY to progressing, and once it clicks it opens up a whole new world of riding!

What is the best and worst thing about being female in your sport? Best part is the camaraderie between lady shredders! The worst part is lack of representation in both products and contests.  For example, the last contest I entered, I won!  But, I was the ONLY girl-lady-woman competing and it didn’t really feel like a win.

What would you like to see change in your sport to make it better for you and other female athletes? There has been improvements in the disparities between men’s and women’s equipment, but there is still lots of room for improvements.

Besides your ability and style factor as an athlete, how would you describe your personal style? My personal style is Grown-Up Tomboy.  Sometimes I love getting dressed up, and I love BOOTS with heels!  But, I am just as happy in a pair of jeans and t-shirt.

What are your favorite brands/designers for your sports apparel and for stepping out? My favorite store is Goodwill, or any thrift-shop.  I have found so many awesome brands there, some of my favorites being: Lucky jeans, 7ForAllMankind,  Baker’s Boots, Banana Republic and Obey! On the hill I love Roxy, Volcom and Holden, and of course SheShreds gear!

Let’s hear your thoughts on how important looking good is to feeling good. “Being” your personal best? “ Look good, feel good” is not just a saying, it’s true!  I like to practice yoga, bike and walk my dogs to stay strong, both on the inside and outside.

I bet in your experience you have seen some crazy crashes. Describe one. I taught snowboarding for many years.  One lesson was quite large, and we had to take separate chairlifts up the hill.  My student was in the chair in front of me, and he FELL OFF the lift right before my eyes!  Luckily, we were near the top and he was wearing a helmet, so he had a huge goose-egg on his forehead, but no serious injuries!

What is your favorite trick? I love doing cab-tricks!

Do you own any other toys? Boat, Mountain Bike, XC skis, PS3

What gets you pumped up for the day? COFFEE!!

What are three things you could not live without? Protein, Coffee, Water.

What are your expectations for this activity/sport? I want to keep learning, progressing and growing as a rider!

Who’s your favorite rider/shooter (photo/video)? Christy Prior is AMAZING!

What do you do in your spare time when you’re not riding/shooting/competing? Work, hang out with my husband, step-daughter and 5 pets, read, play Zombie games on my PS3.

How about in the off season to stay in shape? Yoga, hiking-walking my dogs, biking, wakeboarding.

What is your biggest goal to accomplish this/next season? Compete in the USASA contests!

What do you do to prep for a competition? Practice, practice, practice and also visualize my line before I drop-in.

What’s your favorite “way” to ride( wake sport- specific, cable, boat, winch) (Snowsport specific- park, freeride/backcountry, urban)? Park all the way!

Where would be your biggest dream place to ride and why? Switzerland, I have lots of family there!

What song(s) do you listen to while riding that puts you in the zone? I don’t usually ride to music, I can’t focus as well then.

What turned you on to your sport? My friend in Junior High started and convinced me to try...I’ve been hooked ever since!

What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever done in your sport? Won a sick Holden Jacket!

What would you say is your signature trick? Switch 180’s

Favorite drink of choice to refresh yourself after a long day of riding/shooting? Water.
