Hannah Cass - Snowboard/Longboarder - Hampshire, UK

 Your Age: 20

Your Location (where do you ride mostly): When snowboarding I like to be in the Milton Keynes indoor snowslope (when not on the mountain)! And when longboarding I'd be happy anywhere in the world! (but mostly around Portsmouth Beachfront)

Weapon(s) of choice: Snowboarding and Longboarding will always be my initial choice, but I want to learn to park skateboard, and no matter what I'm doing I'll always have my camera with me filming all that's going on!

What’s an average day for you like? Well when I'm at University I'll be studying hard, but obviously when I'm out I'll be playing hard! I always look for adventure in whatever I'm doing, even when I'm out for a walk I'll always be looking for new places to skate or fun things to climb! I just can't help it!

What is the most difficult part of your activity/sports for a beginner? The easiest? Well for snowboarding its always hard to start yourself off, its quite hard to learn, but the best thing ever once you get the hang of it! Once you get in your first turn its amazing how fast you can progress to take your first carve, or landing your first jump! The possibilities are endless!

What is the best and worst thing about being female in your sport? The best thing about being a female snowboarder/longboarder will always be the look on everyone face when you show them what you've got! A lot of people are often surprised at what a girl can do! (which in its turn is also the worst thing, as they have low expectations from the start purely because I'm a female!)

What would you like to see change in your sport to make it better for you and other female athletes? Right now snowboarding is pretty fair game for both men and women, but for longboarding/skating, its a very male dominated sport. Even heading down to a local park can get some odd looks from people. So what I'd change would be for people to not have an automatic low expectation or dislike towards female skaters.

Besides your ability and style factor as an athlete, how would you describe your personal style? I'm a sucker for a nice checkered shirt over vest, its always the nicest skating apparel and for everyday lifestyle!

What are your favorite brands/designers for your sports apparel and for stepping out? I love Vans for my shoes, burton for my boots, and Dragon Alliance/Oakley for my goggles!

Let’s hear your thoughts on how important looking good is to feeling good. “Being” your personal best? Looking good is always something that just generally makes me feel better about my day! Although having a chill day in pajamas is always nice, I just reckon wearing my favourite set of clothes definitely puts a smile on my face!

How dangerous do you really think it is compared to what people do in their regular activities? Sometimes I forget how dangerous snowboarding can be. Of course its amazing fun and a great way to experience a great rush, but there can be times where you can get a little too relaxed and start making mistakes which could easily lead to a bad injury! Its always best to keep a concentrated head on, so that you can enjoy the ride without ending up in a hospital!

I bet in your experience you have seen some crazy crashes. Describe one. This Easter I was snowboarding with some friends, and one decided to go full speed down a some moguls. It was all going great until one wrong turn and they ended up flying through the air in a spin wheel fashion! It was a rather impressive crash that I'll remember for a long time!

What usually gets people hooked on your activity/sport? Their first time riding down a perfect piste after a heavy night of thick snowfall. I'll never forget my first run like that, it really got me into loving what I do.

What is your favorite trick? The 'Work in Progress'.

Do you own any other toys? I've got a slack-line that I love to crack out on sunny days in the park! I also have access to a jet ski which is the perfect way to spend a day at the beach by speeding along the water in the wind!

What gets you pumped up for the day? Knowing that I could find myself deep within a new adventure just by stepping outside in the morning! I love the feeling that absolutely anything could happen to completely change my world!

What are three things you could not live without? My boards, a nice large dominos pizza, and the adventures I have with my friends!

What are your expectations for this activity/sport? I always have high expectations for where my sports can take me, or what I can do with them. Not even the sky is the limit for me!

Who have been your biggest supporters in getting you to where you are now? All the people around me are very supportive, but the main people will definitely be my housemates (one snowboarder, the other a skier). They always push my to my full potential and never let me step down from a challenge!

Who’s your favorite rider/shooter (photo/video)? I'll always answer GoPro to this question! They have such a wide range of athletes all showing off their skills in amazing and entertaining videos which never fail to impress me!

What do you do in your spare time when you’re not riding/shooting/competing? In my spare time I'm usually working hard on my university projects! But if its not that I'll always looks for an excuse to hang out with my friends doing something fun! Be it bowling, or a meal, I'll always be having fun with friends around.

How about in the off season to stay in shape? There is not off season for me! I've got snowboarding for the winter (and all year round in the indoor snow slop in Milton Keynes) and I've got longboarding (+hopefully park skateboarding) for the summer! I'm set! I also dabble in rock climbing all year round!

What is your biggest goal to accomplish this/next season? To learn to park skateboard to a good enough standard that I can smash the idea that girls can't skate!

What do you do to prep for a competition? Try to calm my nerves. Do anything I can to keep calm and push through as best as I can.

What competitions and other awards have you won? Include your non sports accomplishments also. I was elected to be my University's Snowsports Club Sec! So now I'm in charge of all the social media and posting photos from our epic trips!

What’s your favorite “way” to ride?  I always like to free ride when I'm snowboarding, but I'm being pulled towards the park by my Park Rat friends! So that answer may change soon!

Favorite conditions? For snowboarding it would be a bright blue sky with fresh powder from the heavy night of snow the night before! For longboarding it would just have to be a quiet sunny day with big open roads to ride along.

Where would be your biggest dream place to ride and why? I'd love to head over to America for their massively large twisty roads for longboarding, it would be such and experience compared to England's small roads, and little hills!

What song(s) do you listen to while riding that puts you in the zone? Straight Up - Avenza, Clint Eastwood - Gorillaz, Caffeine Rush - Jacob Tillberg, Thunderstruck - AC/DC.

What turned you on to your sport? I became a snowboarder because my older brother was one! I always wanted to be as good as him, and if I might say so myself, I think I've passed him in skills level now!

Any new tricks you’re working on? I'm going to be learning how to park skateboard this summer, so I'm practicing ollies and kick flips in my head until I can get out on the board itself!

What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever done in your sport? This Easter was the first time I had ever ridden a half pipe! A soon as I got to the end, the only thing I could think about was getting back up to the top to go again!

What other extreme/action sports are you into? I am in love with watching people surf, I am always so amazed as to how they have so much control over their boards! I tried it one summer and nearly killed myself! I'll always be very impressed by them.

If extreme/action sports didn’t exist, what would you be doing with all the free time you’d have? I'd be loosing my mind! My whole world is all about looking for new adventures! I guess I'd just have to rebel against the system and go climb anything I saw or build my own board to ride on to fight the system! (But that.s just me.)

What’s your favorite board/bike/sled to ride and why? Each winter I'll always say snowboarding, and each summer I'll always say Longboarding! Snowboarding down a perfect run with all the speed in the world, and none of the worries! But then longboarding down an amazing road with the sun beating down on me and the riding along the beachfront hearing the waves crash onto the shore! I can't choose! They are both so perfect for me!

What’s the trick to riding features and not killing yourself? I haven't quite worked that out yet myself!!

How would you describe your riding style? On a longboard, I'm chill, relaxed, and just enjoying life. But on a snowboard I'll always be searching for that fastest run to give me the biggest rush!

What would you say is your signature trick? Finding the best piste to ride down, point my snowboard straight down, and riding it with as much speed as possible all the way to the bottom.

Favorite drink of choice to refresh yourself after a long day of riding/shooting? I'm always the one to enjoy a nice glass of cold water! I've never been into these fizzy unhealthy drinks, I'm all for the natural! (Although, I'll never say no to an ice cold beer.)

What do you want to be when you grow up? When I grow up I want to some day be working with GoPro! Either filming while out on an amazing ride, or back behind the scenes editing all the footage into one amazing video for millions of people to enjoy!
