Dani Groppe - Flowboard/Wakeboard/Wakesurfer (NLD)

Your Age: 39

Your Location (where do you ride mostly): Mallorca (Spain)

Weapon(s) of choice: Flying Frenchman Flowboard, and my selfmade board

What is the most difficult part of your activity/sports for a beginner? Difficult part is to find and keep the balance on the board and become comfortable on the wave. As soon as you manage this it's quite easy to start carving.

What is the best and worst thing about being female in your sport? I have no negative experiences being a woman doing this sport, it's always fun with the guys... fully accepted and very supportive. But unfortunately there are not many female flowboarders in Europe to push each others limits.

What would you like to see change in your sport to make it better for you and other female athletes? More flowboarding venues to make the sport more accessible, growth of the community (so also more female riders), more clinics/girls' clinics and competitions. Increasing the popularity of Flowboarding to get more support for the athletes and events.

What are your favorite brands/designers for your sports apparel and for stepping out? Roxy, Hurley, Mystic, Naketamo and SheShreds ofc!

Let’s hear your thoughts on how important looking good is to feeling good. “Being” your personal best? You only look good when you feel good ... so love yourself, be happy and self confident!

How dangerous do you really think it is compared to what people do in their regular activities? There are risks of injuries, specially knee injuries but overall I would say that Flowboarding is quite safe as you fall on a soft surface.

I bet in your experience you have seen some crazy crashes. Describe one. Someone who made a faceplant onto the nozzle and almost passed out.

What usually gets people hooked on your activity/sport? The great fun factor and fast progression.

What is your favorite trick? Frontside shuv-it

Do you own any other toys? All kind of boards you can use on the water, land or snow! And a Mastercraft X2

What gets you pumped up for the day? Sun and the smell of the ocean.

What are three things you could not live without? My family, good friends & Flowboarding

What are your expectations for this activity/sport? Growth and innovation of the sports and different types of waves

Who have been your biggest supporters in getting you to where you are now? My family for giving my the opportunity to travel and my best friend who`s coaching me and giving me a lot of support on my trips and competitions.

Who’s your favorite rider/shooter? Austyn Victoria & Quincy Vlijtig

What is your biggest goal to accomplish this/next season? Staying in the European Top 3

What do you do to prep for a competition? Practising on the Flowrider as much as possible

What competitions and other awards have you won? 2nd at the European Flow Tour 2016
1st at the national Competition in Spain (2015/ 2016) and France 2016
3rd at the Dutch national competition 2014

What’s your favorite “way” to ride? Surfing the whole wave on a double Flowrider.
Wakeboarding: Cable because I love obstacles, specially kickers!

Favorite conditions? A sunny day at Wavehouse Mallorca ... having fun with my friends on the wave.

Where would be your biggest dream place to ride and why? I`m working hard on creating this dream place in the Netherlands together with my partners. Building our own "Surf oasis" combined with a cablepark.

What song(s) do you listen to while riding that puts you in the zone? Freedom (Pharrell Williams)... and songs from The Herbaliser, Puppetmastaz or Fat Freddys Drop

What turned you on to your sport? A 2hrs voucher for my birthday 3 years ago ... got directly hooked!

Any new moves you’re working on? Kickflip

What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever done in your sport? The travelling I have to do at the moment as there is no more Flowrider in the Netherlands since 2 years ago. Difficult to coordinate sometimes but I love it!

What other extreme/action sports are you into? Wakeboarding, surfing and Kitesurfing

If extreme/action sports didn’t exist, what would you be doing with all the free time you’d have? I would do more creative things like drawing again .... but seriously, can`t imagine ;)
